Major Toms Mo Party
Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ll be well aware that it’s Movember. Dudes growing moustaches to raise money and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.
Major Toms is hosting a moustache party on Saturday 3rd December. Everyone’s favorite party DJ’s “The Gents” will be spinning the tunes all night. James Annear hasn’t got the best moustache growing skills, but he does have an amazing head of hair. His long curly locks have been sprouting like crazy since 3rd form, and he’s decided to shave his head in support of men’s health. James has set up his own Mo Space page where you can check out his impressive mop and donate money to the cause. James will be getting a #1 at Major Toms around 9:30pm on the night.
We’ll have a bunch of Mo themed special drinks going and we’ll be donating $1 to the Movember cause from each one sold. We’ll also have a few exclusive drink specials going for those sporting a Mo, and if the ladies want to get into theme and rock a fake mo we’ll let it slide.

Pop Wars!
You know pop music wasn’t always shit? In fact if you look at pop music over the past 50 years you’ll find that the majority of it was popular because it was actually amazing! So we’re bringing back the legendary Major Toms Pod-Wars nights to celebrate half a century of Pop Music.
6 Pod-Jockeys will play a 20 min set each from their ipod. All the songs they play must have featured in the Billboard Top 100 songs between 1960 – 2010. That’s over 5000 songs you can choose from! The best PJ set will win a $100 bar tab. Email majortomsbar@clear.net.nz if you would like to register to play a PJ set.
You can view the Billboard Top 100 songs between 1960 – 2010 by clicking here. You can navigate through the different years by changing the “JUMP TO” menu.
Come dressed up as your favorite pop star from the past 50 years. There will be a $50 bar tab for both the best dressed male and female. And every Pop-Star that arrives dressed in theme before 10pm will get a free cocktail.
Thanks for the Party
Our buddies from Thanks are moving their Mt Maunganui store this week. The grand opening of their new store at 227 Maunganui Rd (the old Island Style building) is this Friday. We had a peak at the joint and it’s looking awesome.
They’re throwing an opening party at Major Toms on Friday night (21st Oct). They’ve got the DPTR CLB DJs down from Auckland to play some tunes from 10pm. We’ll also have a happy hour running from 10pm – 11pm with $4 Havana Club Cuba Libres.
We’ll also be playing the RWC Bronze final (Wales vs Australia) on the 100″ big screen earlier on in the evening with an 8:30pm kickoff.
Should be a super-fun night (go Wales!).

Our friend and sometimes staff member Kelly is soon moving to Sydney. She runs a super cool online vintage store called Grans Loose Change and needs to move all her stock before she bails accross the ditch. So we’re hosting the Grans Loose Change Garage Sale!
Saturday 20th August from 12pm – 4pm.
The Holiday is Over
Adios Señor!
Major Toms will be closed until the 5th of August. We’d feel kinda bad about leaving you in the lurch like this, but I think we’ll be too busy enjoying our time in Mexico to worry about it. And you know what they say, sometimes shut happens.

Kiri’s Radical 21st Photos
We hosted our friend Kiri’s last night, which had a “radical” theme. Everyone dressed up rad! Good times.
