Last weeks Street Fighter II Championship was huge, so this week we’re hosting Mortal Wednesday, the Mortal Combat II Championship.

Registration will start at 8pm on Wednesday 8th March, with free play training until the championship begins at 9pm. We’re limiting the draw to 32 players, so don’t be late or you might miss your chance to win the $50 bar tab.

Is anyone going to be able to knock out last weeks Street Fighter Champ Lex Mawson who is quickly establishing himself to be the Billy Mitchell of Mt Maunganui.

In addition to her on the piano, she will be accompanied by two multi-instrumentalists, playing clarinet, accordion, drums, guitar and more.

Toni Cooper loves vinyl. And the brother owns a LOT of records. He’s going to dig into his extensive collection and bring along a selection of his favorite funk, soul, beats and hiphop for your listening pleasure on Saturday 4th February.

Ellen Young who now goes by the name “Castlecliff Lights” is amazing live. Ellen is kind of a one-woman-band, using a loop pedal to build and layer her songs right before you eyes (and ears). Handclaps, banjo, xylophone and who knows what else she’ll slide in there. Amazing!

And this time Ellen is bringing her house truck, parking it in our lane, opening up the side and playing directly into our courtyard (weather permitting).

If that wasn’t awesome enough already, The Libres are going to throw down a couple of tunes too. Oh yeah!

We’re going to kick things off early, hopefully we might get some sunset action so we’ll start at 8pm on Thursday 2nd Feb.

This is one of Castlecliff lights new tracks, it takes a little while to kick off, but geez it’s an epic song.

Recently we received what is undoubtably the greatest edition to Major Toms ever. An old school arcade game custom built with 1300 classic games. As you can imagine, ain’t a whole lot of work been going down at Major Toms this week.

To celebrate it’s arrival on Wednesday 1st Feb we are going to host Mt Maunganui’s first ever Street Fighter tournament! It’ll kick off at 9:00pm and registration will start at 8:00pm. You’ll just need to pay 50c for your first game and if you advance through the tournament we’ll pay for the remainder of your credits.

We’ve consulted Major Toms self proclaimed resident Street Fighter guru Lex Mawson and he’s chosen “Street Fighter II Champion Edition” as the official version for the tournament.

The Street Fighter champion will win a $50 bar tab. Don’t forget to bring your game.

Our buddies from Lower have done a sweet collaboration with G-Shock and produced this badass looking new watch.

Inspired by NZ’s farming heritage it features a tough leather cover and comes in a sheepskin lined leather case. Nice!

The Lower crew are having a launch for the new watch on Saturday 28th January and we’re hosting the after party with the Sweet Mix Kids DJ’n from 9pm.

On Thursday 26th January Major Toms is hosting a tribute night to The Beatles. A bunch of our regular local muso’s like The Libres, Matt Bodman, Joe Thompson & friends are going to cover a bunch of classic Beatles tunes. Should be awesome! Beatlemania kicks off at 9pm.

There’ll also be a $50 bar tab for the best dressed Beatle.

Alright, New Years Eve is just around the corner. The weather report is looking terrible, so you could either wander around the main beach sober in the rain trying to get a pash, or come to Major Toms and have the time of your life!

We’ve got the guru of vinyl Toni Cooper dragging his crates of records into Major Toms and rocking the party right through into the New Year.

We’ve got multiple happy hours rolling throughout the night, with good tunes and good times.

Toni Cooper dragged his crates of vinyl into Major Toms on Boxing Day and threw down an awesome set of his favorite funk, soul, beats and hiphop. We’re stoked to have him back on Friday 30th December for the Corona Sounds of Summer.

It’ll be a night of epic tunes and good times. And we’ll have 4 Coronas for $20 until 11:00pm. Sweet!

Our buddy DJ Bobby Johnson is hitting the road on his annual summer tour. He’ll be stopping by Major Toms on Wednesday 28th December with his swag of garage rock, soul, garage and bloc party jams. Last year Goodnight Mumbo Jumbo was so busy we had to stop letting folks in by 11:00pm. A super fun night.
