Lower x G-Shock

January 25, 2012

Our buddies from Lower have done a sweet collaboration with G-Shock and produced this badass looking new watch.

Inspired by NZ’s farming heritage it features a tough leather cover and comes in a sheepskin lined leather case. Nice!

.

The Lower crew are having a launch for the new watch on Saturday 28th January and we’re hosting the after party with the Sweet Mix Kids DJ’n from 9pm.

Beatlemania at Major Toms

There’ll also be a $50 bar tab for the best dressed Beatle.

New Year!

December 30, 2011

Alright, New Years Eve is just around the corner. The weather report is looking terrible, so you could either wander around the main beach sober in the rain trying to get a pash, or come to Major Toms and have the time of your life!

We’ve got the guru of vinyl Toni Cooper dragging his crates of records into Major Toms and rocking the party right through into the New Year.

We’ve got multiple happy hours rolling throughout the night, with good tunes and good times.

Corona Sounds of Summer

December 28, 2011

Toni Cooper dragged his crates of vinyl into Major Toms on Boxing Day and threw down an awesome set of his favorite funk, soul, beats and hiphop. We’re stoked to have him back on Friday 30th December for the Corona Sounds of Summer.

It’ll be a night of epic tunes and good times. And we’ll have 4 Coronas for $20 until 11:00pm. Sweet!

Goodnight Mumbo Jumbo

December 20, 2011

Our buddy DJ Bobby Johnson is hitting the road on his annual summer tour. He’ll be stopping by Major Toms on Wednesday 28th December with his swag of garage rock, soul, garage and bloc party jams. Last year Goodnight Mumbo Jumbo was so busy we had to stop letting folks in by 11:00pm. A super fun night.

The Rise of Audio Archives

December 19, 2011

Toni Cooper loves vinyl. And the brother owns a LOT of records. He’s going to dig into his extensive collection and bring along a selection of his favorite funk, soul, beats and hiphop for your listening pleasure on boxing day.

C’mon down and groove off all that Christmas dinner.

2nd Birthday Party Photos

December 18, 2011

Thanks to everyone who braved the bad weather to come down and celebrate our 2nd birthday party with us. What a night! Sorry to those folks that couldn’t get in. Now we’re in the terrible twos, hopefully we don’t start throwing tantrums.

The Libres & Castlecliff Lights Live!

December 18, 2011

We are so excited to announce that on Wednesday 21st December our favorite local Band “The Libres” will finally be playing another show at Major Toms.
.

.
And if that wasn’t awesome enough, one of our favorite acts who has ever played at Major Toms is going to play in support! Ellen Young who now goes by the name “Castlecliff Lights” is amazing live. Ellen is kind of a one-woman-band, using a loop pedal to build and layer her songs right before you eyes (and ears). Handclaps, banjo, xylophone and who knows what else she’ll slide in there. Amazing!
.

Her new track is so good, it takes about a minute and half to kick off, but look at it go!

Major Toms Mo Party

November 24, 2011

Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ll be well aware that it’s Movember. Dudes growing moustaches to raise money and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.

Major Toms is hosting a moustache party on Saturday 3rd December. Everyone’s favorite party DJ’s “The Gents” will be spinning the tunes all night. James Annear hasn’t got the best moustache growing skills, but he does have an amazing head of hair. His long curly locks have been sprouting like crazy since 3rd form, and he’s decided to shave his head in support of men’s health. James has set up his own Mo Space page where you can check out his impressive mop and donate money to the cause. James will be getting a #1 at Major Toms around 9:30pm on the night.

We’ll have a bunch of Mo themed special drinks going and we’ll be donating $1 to the Movember cause from each one sold. We’ll also have a few exclusive drink specials going for those sporting a Mo, and if the ladies want to get into theme and rock a fake mo we’ll let it slide.

Pop Wars!

November 5, 2011

You know pop music wasn’t always shit? In fact if you look at pop music over the past 50 years you’ll find that the majority of it was popular because it was actually amazing! So we’re bringing back the legendary Major Toms Pod-Wars nights to celebrate half a century of Pop Music.

6 Pod-Jockeys will play a 20 min set each from their ipod. All the songs they play must have featured in the Billboard Top 100 songs between 1960 – 2010. That’s over 5000 songs you can choose from! The best PJ set will win a $100 bar tab. Email majortomsbar@clear.net.nz if you would like to register to play a PJ set.

You can view the Billboard Top 100 songs between 1960 – 2010 by clicking here. You can navigate through the different years by changing the “JUMP TO” menu.

Come dressed up as your favorite pop star from the past 50 years. There will be a $50 bar tab for both the best dressed male and female. And every Pop-Star that arrives dressed in theme before 10pm will get a free cocktail.
